Are you a woman interested in empowering other women leaders? In light of the continued work of the Women in Leadership Audit (WLA), based on interest from women across the country, Joanna Shenk is forming a volunteer taskforce. Joanna is an associate on Mennonite Church USA national staff and has been coordinating the WLA.
This taskforce would take the lead on projects that have been suggested for the WLA. These tasks could include, but are not limited to:
- Mennonite Monologues collection of stories and publication
- Women’s leadership retreat at Laurelville Mennonite Church Center
- Undoing patriarchy training for leaders in Mennonite Church USA
- Implementation of a mentoring program for women
- Creation of women-empowering resources for worship, work and life
The Women in Leadership Taskforce (WLT) will be made up of women who vary in age, location, ethnicity and occupation, each with a commitment to empowering women within Mennonite Church USA congregations and organizations.
The taskforce will meet monthly by phone, with two 6-month reviews and then yearly reviews after that, until discontinuation is decided or the taskforce takes a different form. Each taskforce member will begin with a two-year term. Coordination work outside of meeting times will be required based on the projects/events that are pursued.
The WLT will also work in collaboration with Mennonite Women USA. As Mennonite Women USA works primarily to empower women in Mennonite congregations, the WLT works primarily with women leaders. Both types of work are deeply important!
Joanna will coordinate the WLT. If you are interested in being a part of it, or have questions, please be in touch with her at joannas@mennoniteusa.org or 574.523.3055 or toll-free 1.866.866.2872 ext. 23055.
