In a world that demands constant labor and productivity, what if rest was not just a necessity, but an act of defiance? Mennonite Church USA (MC USA) invites women from across the denomination to reclaim rest as resistance at the MC USA Women’s Summit, a transformative one-day event on July 8, 2025 in Greensboro, North Carolina. The gathering, themed “Beholding it Together,” is designed to affirm, support and resource women in MC USA in their callings, ministries and faith journeys.
Honoring stories, strength and rest
Hosted by MC USA’s Women in Leadership ministry, this summit creates a sacred space where slowing down is not just encouraged but celebrated. Together, attendees will explore the power of restoration, resistance and renewal through worship, storytelling and community.

Lorraine Stutzman-Amstutz
“In a world that demands labor and productivity, we hope this is a day that reclaims rest as a tool for resistance,” said Lorraine Stutzman Amstutz, MC USA denominational minister for Peace & Justice and staff liaison for Women in Leadership. “We want to listen to each other’s stories, each other’s souls and bear witness to our power.”
The concept of “rest as resistance” is rooted in Black liberation theology and was coined by Tricia Hersey, author, theologian and activist. This gathering will explore how rest is not merely an individual practice but a communal and spiritual strategy for well-being and justice.
A day of worship, wisdom and witness
