ELKHART, Indiana (Mennonite Church USA) — Mennonite Church USA (MC USA) Moderator Linda Dibble, Executive Director Glen Guyton and Director of Racial/Ethnic Engagement Sue Park-Hur are representing the denomination as delegates at the Mennonite World Conference (MWC) General Council meeting in Indonesia, July 1-4, 2022.
The General Council is a group of church leaders that meets every three years to shape the mandate of MWC, share concerns and insights, and worship together. One of the topics on the agenda is a possible name change for MWC.
Following the General Council meeting, the MC USA leaders will attend Indonesia 2022, also referred to as Mennonite World Conference Assembly 17, held July 5-10, in and around Semarang, Indonesia. The assembly is a global gathering of Anabaptists and Mennonites that occurs every six years. (The General Council meeting and Assembly 17 were postponed in 2021 due to the pandemic.)
During the week-long fellowship, attendees worship together and celebrate their common roots, study the Bible with Anabaptists/Mennonite siblings from around the world, and celebrate the diversity in the worldwide family of faith.
“MC USA is part of the global church, and it is important for us to hear what God is doing in the rest of the world,” said Dibble. “Each country brings a unique perspective to this global gathering. It’s an opportunity to learn from each other,” she added.
MWC Assembly 17 is a hybrid event, and registrants can participate on-site and online in faith formation activities, such as worship services, keynote presentations and seminars. Register here.
