(Mennonite Church USA) — Get ready for a holy feast. The Lent At Home resource based on the theme “Blessed Hunger…Holy Feast” is available now with materials for exploring God’s abundance and the season’s themes. The materials begin with Shrove Tuesday on March 5 and continue through Easter Sunday on April 21.
“The At Home series brings the observance of Lent into our homes so it’s not just on Sunday mornings that we’re thinking about the Lenten journey and passion of Christ,” said Shana Peachey Boshart, denominational minister for Faith Formation. “It helps us recognize the potential to bring Lent home every day.”
The theme and Scriptures in the Lent At Home materials are based on the congregational worship materials published in Leader magazine by MennoMedia. For each week, the At Home resource offers meditations, pondering thoughts, scriptures, songs, prayers and creative activities. The materials are geared toward families and created to be child-friendly, Peachey Boshart said, though people of all ages can find them useful for personal or group devotions.
“Research shows that the most significant influence on children’s faith is their parents,” said Peachey Boshart. “This is one way that we as church can equip parents to have a faith formation experience with kids at home.”
The At Home series is written by Elsie Rempel, faith formation consultant, who has written these booklets since 2002 as a way to integrate home and congregational worship.
“This Lent, rediscovering and reclaiming confession will help us journey with Jesus, whose love stays with us and pursues us through outstretched arms,” writes Rempel in an introduction to the resource.
