What’s that? I often get asked when I introduce myself as Director of Holistic Witness for Mennonite Church USA.
Holistic witness involves peacemaking and sharing faith, it involves helping birth new faith communities and seeking justice, it involves service and forgiveness. But these concerns are often pitted against each other.
People sometimes try to overcome these divisions by saying: We need to do both – peace and evangelism, word and deed. But I think we need to dig deeper.
In the long-standing tension between “social ministries” and “spiritual ministries,” both may have gotten distorted. This three minute video examines these important forms of witness and suggests ways they are integrated as different aspects of God’s shalom project. It also introduces you to the holistic witness team of Mennonite Church USA.
