Putting Jesus on the Ballot: Anabaptism and American Politics with Scott Peterson
A webinar series from the Mennonite Church USA Leadership Development Team for pastors and congregational leaders.
Political tensions are rising, argumentation has replaced conversation, and divisions widen. How should we, as pastors and leaders, engage? How do we avoid the pull of partisan politics in order to create space for the Spirit to work reconciliation in our midst? Over three webinars, we will explore one perspective on how Anabaptist theology can create a different paradigm for engaging government without falling into the traps of fallen systems or partisan politics.
Scott Peterson is the Leadership Pastor at Trinity Mennonite Church in Glendale, Arizona and a leadership coach for pastors. He received his MA in Theology from Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary. In his work, Scott seeks to help others maintain flexible models of ministry, integrated Anabaptist theology, and Spirit-empowered vision as central components for equipping a Jesus-centered church.
All times at 5 p.m. Pacific/8 p.m. Eastern. Please register no later than the day before to receive your Zoom link. For the October and November webinars, a Zoom invitation will be emailed to everyone who registered for the September or October webinar. You may register for a webinar even if you have not participated in the previous one(s), but please watch the recordings (linked below as they become available) to catch up on content in order to participate in the chat discussion.

#MakePeace: Social Media Shalom
From texting to tweeting, most of us rely on social media to help us share ideas, learn skills, celebrate milestones, and connect with people. Even though social media has opened a whole new world to many people who would otherwise feel isolated, the potential for harm and conflict is always present. This webinar is about everyday practices and strategies that will help you become a peacemaker in our very digital age. What would it look like if you embodied the love of Jesus every time you logged on to your favorite platform? Osheta Moore blogs at shalominthecity.com and is the outreach and teaching pastor at Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is the author of Shalom Sistas: Living wholeheartedly in a broken-hearted world.

Planning your baptism instruction class
The perennial challenge: how to prepare young people for baptism. Some believe we need to spend more time in baptismal preparation. At the same time, we can barely get folks to commit to regular classes. There are actually quite a few curricular options, but which fit the group you are working with? We’ll hear from a panel of pastors who are doing innovative things to prepare youth for baptism, then take your questions.
